University of Bradford students invited to Grab a Jab at Freshers’ Fortnight

24 Sep 2021

Students attending Freshers’ Fortnight events at the University of Bradford will have the chance to ‘Grab a Jab’ at pop up vaccination clinics on campus next week (Monday 27 – Wednesday 29 September 2021).

New and current students at the university can have their first or second vaccination at the ‘Grab a Jab’ pop up clinic in the Richmond Building atrium. If they wish to have their second, they must have had the first dose at least eight weeks earlier.

Nikki Pierce, academic registrar said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming students new and old back on to campus. Our students’ safety and wellbeing is always our top priority and it is so important that those who can do get a vaccine. We are pleased to be working with our partners from the NHS COVID vaccination programme for Bradford district and Craven to host a vaccination clinic for students during Freshers’ Fortnight, to make it as easy as possible for our students to get vaccinated.”

Rukeya Miah, deputy associate director of nursing / senior midwife at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust / Bradford District & Craven community vaccination programme welcomed the opportunity to provide the pop-up vaccination clinics during Freshers’ Fortnight.

“This is an exciting time for students who are starting their university years, and for those who were unable to participate in events like this last year because of the restrictions we were all living under. We are pleased to be here with them and to be able to offer the vaccine, whether it is their first or second dose. We will be on hand to answer any questions students have about the vaccine. I hope as many as possible come along to help to prevent the spread of this virus, so that they are able to involve themselves fully in university life.

“We would like to ensure young people are protected against COVID-19, especially as we continue to see high infection rates among our young people,” she said
